Economic Growth And Political Dilemma In Authoritarian Regime

This thesis is focuses on the research of the authoritarian regime of Park Chung Hee,and then introduces the process of the modernization of South Koreaand,the interaction between the Economics and Politics. The tough measures of the authoritarian regime, In some degree indeed promoted Korea economy, but with the growing economic prosperity, the government on economic transition intervention has not adapted to the development of productivity.At the same time it also improve the growing of the wealth,the level of enducation, the differentiation of social structure, the aspirations of politics. Therefore leding to authoritarian system questions and the democratic transition expectations generated. My paper mainly includes the following four parts:The first part describes the a detailed introduction of the authoritarian regime of South Korea. Focus on the social situations before Park Chung Hee’s administration and the regime structure of him. Park Chung Hee relied on military force to overthrow Zhang Mian regime established a military dictatorship of the authoritarian regime.In order to maintain and consolidate the authoritarian rule and political situation,he reform the political system and centralized power.The second part describes the political influence to economy. In order to improve the people’s living conditions and to mainten the authoritarian regime legitimacy,the regime of Park Chung Hee develop economy and and put the economic construction in the first place. The economic measures are:the " technology establishes a country" ruling concept; the "export-oriented " development strategy; the " economy develops is the first" guidelines. The third part describes the economic performance to the authoritarian regime. It has indeed played a big role in legal construction, but with the economic growth, people’s living standard, the traffic and the educational conditions have been greatly improved, promoting the social structure, social perception,changing the desire of people and the life mode increasing the political demands.
