Identity Of European Countries And Russia Image

With the development of globalization, National Image is becoming a hot topic in world wide. Everyone, from national leaders to theoretical experts are all studying on how to determine correct national identity and how to build great national image.Russia is one of the great powers in the world. Its national image has great influence to the whole world. Meanwhile, its national image is completely different in different period. In Peter the Great Period, its image was a backward agricultural country with great military power; In19th century, its national image was turmoil; In Lenin and Stalin Period, its image was socialist country. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia lost its positioning, neglected to the construction of national image. After Vladimir Putin became the president of Russia, he put forward the "European Country" image again and adopted a series of concrete measures to build the image of European Country for Russia.However, with the strong desire to return to Europe, Russia hasn’t gain the support and recognition from west countries. Those countries showed strong opposition and criticism on the other hand, made Russia’s return much harder. Has Russia successfully built its European Country Image? This paper is trying to use the identity theory of constructivism to analyze and expound all the efforts Putin has done help Russia to build its new national image, in order to find the answer.
