This dissertation aims to study China’s Foreign Relations with Ghana since the establishment of Diplomatic Ties in1960. Also both countries’ Foreign Policies were discussed. A historical analysis of the beginning of relations between China and Ghana was conducted and the various activities that have span over the five decades were discussed. It is noted that the two countries have maintained fruitful relations and have supported each other since the realization of a common ideology of China’s Chairman Mao Zedong and Ghana’s Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who began friendly relations on behalf of the two countries, in1960. On this realization of mutual interest for the peoples of China and Ghana, the relations resulted in the signing of The Friendship Treaty as an instrument that would promote genuine and close friendship between the governments and peoples of Ghana and China. Five decades have passed, since Ghana and China have established relations and have benefited tremendously through the sustained historic bilateral ties. The dissertation used sources from government reports, journals and other credible sources of information. The dissertation found out that China’s Foreign Policy towards Ghana was factored in the relevant Articles of the1954Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, which predated the Independence of Ghana. It provided the framework for policies characterizing China’s relations with Ghana. The articles spelt out the organization’s aim of enhancing friendship, furthering international cooperation, safe guarding world peace and promoting mutual development. The policies and relations at all levels between China and Ghana have seen a positive trend in cooperation. This is evident in the high levels of benefits in trade and other sectors which both China and Ghana proudly hold as a mark of good relations. The Two-Good theory analysed the level of change of both economies stating clearly the development of the various sectors of China and Ghana’s economies. Among others, recommendations are made in providing a China-Ghana policy blueprint and deepening cultural relations to further maintain a long lasting relationship.
