Infamia system is a unique system in Roman Law, it narrows the main personalcharacter on moral grounds and it is an identity system that can make relevant individualsinto a private right damaged condition. The infamia is usually based on two grounds,specific facts and sentence of a praetor. So it also can be divided into two sections: thecensorian infamia and the praetorian infamia. The infamia system played a very importantrole in identity control and social management in ancient Rome. After the demise of theRoman Empire, the infamia system disappeared from the stage of history, but this systemhad never died. Its three core values still influence the modern society ruled by law: socialidentity, ethical considerations, and general value judgments of social subjects. Also theenactment of legislation and legislative idea of modern society which is ruled by law alsoembodies the infamia system traces. This article describes the infamia system from thebeginning, and then analyzes the type of the infamia. In the end this article extracts thecore values of its internal so as to explore its impact on modern society ruled by law andthe future outlook operation.
