| Previous researches suggested that current community participation in China is deficient,considering both of its breadth and depth. And they attributed the reasons to individuals’ lackingof participating awareness and the established political realities. The deficiency of participationwill further impede the development of community instruction and social autonomy. Based on theobservation of a typical community service activity, this article explores the differences betweenvarious participants’ behaviors and the network connecting them from the description of theprocess of this activity. And after the analysis of participants’ relationships and the structure oftheir network, this article divides the current participating network into three types: emotional,political and instrumental networks. Among them, the emotional and political networks canaccelerate the development of social capital, while the political network may decelerate it. Basedon the conclusion of the study, from the perspective of community social work, feasibilityinterventions to promote the development of social capital include promoting the establishment offunctional community-based organizations, seeking the outside supports and taking advantage ofopportunities from activities to establish and maintain connections between participants. |
