The community is an important area of human social life and a basic unit of social governance. As the main body of community autonomy, residentsr' participation in community public life is relatively low,and there is a structural imbalance. At the same time, studies have shown that social capital is one of the important factors affecting residents' participation. This thesis focuses on the role of social capital in the participation of community residents and its mechanisms.focusing on the role of social capital in residents' participation and its mechanism. This thesis selects three communities belonging to three different types as research objects;sample data is obtained through questionnaires and interviews;using SPSS20.0 software to perform descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis.Through analysis, there are four findings:First, different types of communities have different performances in the social trust dimension, reciprocity norms dimension and social networks dimension, but they are not performing well, and the social capital stock situation is not very optimistic.Second, different types of communities have different performances in terms of residentsr' participation, but their overall level is not high.Residents are less involved in community public life and their participation will not reach a higher level.Third, social capital and community residentsl' participation are significantly and positively correlated at the overall and all dimensions, and social capital affects the participation of community residents, but the influence of the three dimensions is different.Fourth, among the control variables, gender, age, education level, and length of residence have an impact on residents' participation, but the mechanism is more complicated;the marital status and the influence of party membership are not significant.
