This thesis focuses on the transition of the1980s in China’s political, economicand cultural environment, and it takes a research on some family theme comics ofparticular year, such as “Comic Monthly”,“Satire and Humor” and “the ChineseNews” which are considered as the influential publications, and it tries to explore thechange of Chinese contemporary family relationships and family concept, on the baseof which it serves to illustrate the relationships between the change and transition, andextends the formation and change of people’s psychology and motivation who tookfamily as the unit in society.On the whole, it starts with the symbol’s family culture meaning in familysubject itself, and makes a further analysis on the discourse structural meaning offamily relations, and ends with the family as the unit in society which insinuates themeaning during the time of social transformation. Particularly, the text is divided intothree parts. At beginning, it deals with three features on explaining the reason why thefamily subject comics are defined by semiotics. Secondly, it also selects the methodsof semiotics, and discusses that in contemporary nuclear families, the character of therelationship between the parents and their children, man-woman relationship beforeand after their marriage. At last, this thesis says that as the degradation of paternalauthority and gender equality becomes more apparent, people can get the sign ofsocial orientation and transformation.
