Clark Kerr (1911-2003), the famous contemporary American higher education thinker and practice activists, being praised of "one of the giants of American education". He has served as the President of the university of California, Berkeley, California university total school mass principal, and higher education committee in Carnegie for higher education policy research and Carnegie council. After the Second World War, American society and its complex, Kerr take the bull by the horns, with their own practice and experience of more than800university the headmaster’s interview as the foundation, put forward with real vision view of the President of the university.Kerr has a lot of information and advice provided on the status of university presidents in the United States and how to improve the university leadership, and then turns research to deepen. He believes that the American university presidents multiple roles, play a crucial role in the development of the University of. Subject to a variety of factors, the behavior of the presidents should adopt different strategies in different management mode. He pointed out that the U.S. university presidents selection system is also one of the necessary conditions to ensure that American university presidents well play a role.This paper attempts to discuss three aspects about Kerr’s idea of university presidents: the mission and role, the power position and the selection of the university presidents. It not only discusses influence of Kerr’s thought on the United States and other countries but also explores the revelation and reference meaning to our country.
