A Survey Of English Video Appreciation As An Optional Course In Senior High School

As we all know, film and television works are a kind of production for the modern life entertainment with the development of science and technology. The rapid development of video media also makes the culture transmit fast, which has never appeared before. At the same time, many pedagogues realize the advantages if it is used into teaching; in addition, it achieves the obvious effect, especially, in the foreign language teaching. In English teaching, Videos play an important and promotional part in listening, speaking, translation, and culture, etc. So this thesis attempts to talk about the impact of English videos on the English teaching in the culture factors and thereby to discuss applying videos into the English teaching to get a good result.According to the latest English Curriculum Criteria of Secondary Education, English video appreciation is stipulated as an optional course. Based on the author’s questionnaire and interview on Grade One students in a senior high school, the thesis is meant to make an effectual analysis of the teaching aims, contents, implementation, and evaluation, etc. so as to make a scientific, effective and feasible teaching design. It hopes to guide the teaching practice in senior high schools.The theories of the Input Hypothesis and Affective Filter Hypothesis of S.Krashen, Comprehensible Output Hypothesis of Swain and Constructivism are employed to illustrate the importance of the current humanistic education in order to increase the cross-cultural awareness and to make an integral person. English movie class as an optional course in senior high schools can be the proper vehicle to boost up study interest, broaden span of view, and improve the students’personalities as well as their linguistic competence. It shows the necessity and importance of developing English movie class.
