The Basic Education Curriculum Reform Outline clearly pointed out that teachers should respect the student’s personality, pay attention to the students’ individual differences, meet their different needs, and create an educational environment which can guide the students to participate the class activities actively. It also asks the teachers to stimulate the students’ enthusiasm for learning, to help the students have the positive attitude towards English study and an ability of grasping and using the language so that each student can be fully developed. Therefore, we teachers should concern the students with learning difficulties. This paper is an action research of stimulating the motivation of the students with learning difficulties towards English study in Junior Three in rural area by helping them grasp the vocabularies because vocabulary learning is the source of English learning. It intends to explore whether it is the effective way to stimulate the motivation of the students with learning difficulties towards English study in Junior Three in rural area by helping them grasp the vocabularies. The subjects involved in the study were25students with learning difficulties from Class3, Junior3in Bulaotun Middle School. The author used a questionnaire and interviews to learn something about these students’ English study. During the experiment, the writer adopted different activities so as to motivate the students. She used three tests to see whether helping them grasp the vocabularies was the effective way to stimulate their motivation towards English study so that she could find out better ways to teach English to make students with learning difficulties understand the teacher well and take part in the class activities actively. The result showed that20students of all the25students in the class were motivated. Their attitudes towards English study were positive and their grades in mid-test and post-test were higher and higher. And their grades in NMET were about20points higher than they got in their final exam of second semester in Junior2. But it was a pity that there were still5students who were failed to be motivated. So there will be more things the writer needs to do to find out more effective ways to help them.Due to the small sample size, the result yielded from this study will only serve as hypotheses to be tested in the future.
