In recent years, mathematical modeling as an activity in which mathematics is applied to solve practical problems. It’s value of education has caused more and more concern and attention in the world. College stage mathematical modeling competition has attracted the participation of tens of thousands of college students, at the same time, mathematical modeling has entered into middle school, brings about a new learning mode and a new training platform for middle school students, but also brings new learning atmosphere to the school slowly. As a breakthrough in the reform and development of mathematics education in the new century, mathematical modeling plays an important role in cultivating students’ comprehensive ability.Compared with college students to participate in mathematical modeling competition, high school students in the case of relatively weak mathematical knowledge reserve, to participate in the mathematical modeling, what can it bring to high school students in the development of all aspects? On this issue, from previous research on the role of mathematical modeling, the paper summarizing out seven role:(1) improve professional knowledge, skills and self-learning ability;(2) team communication and social skills improvement;(3) to improve mathematics application awareness and capabilities;(4) to improve the ability of practice, innovation and explore;(5) develop a sense of social responsibility;(6) delve into the spirit of perseverance and the scientific attitude of seeking the truth;(7) receive a fun and successful experience. And serving all these as a basic assumption, from two model high schools in Beijing, select20students participated in mathematical modeling competition-depth and do detailed interviews with them and study their modeling papers, to verify that the set of basic assumptions. Research to verify the basic assumptions about the role of high school mathematical modeling of student development, and gives a profound case support; and the survey also receive an additional three conclusions:(1) the attitude of high school students for the mathematical modeling is welcome;(2) of the high school mathematical modeling, students ’parents and the whole community is supported;(3) schools and teachers have a major impact on students’ mathematical modeling. All of these study in this paper further validate the educational value of mathematical modeling in secondary schools.
