French cultural historian and sociologist Philippe Aries’ made research on theconcept of children based on European a large number of paintings, anaglyphy,private diaries, biographies, private letters etc., interpreted the mentality history,sociology and other disciplines, used the image card history. He claimed that “Thereis no childhood in Middle Ages” and published classics “Centuries of childhood: ASocial History of Family Life”. He became the pioneer of the study of the sociologyof childhood. Follow Philippe Aries, the American scholar Anita Schorsch writedbook Images of Childhood: An Illustrated Social History, using the images of history,interpreting pictures and images from the Middle Ages to the19th century in Europeand the U.S.,elaborating the sociology of childhood from medieval to modern societyand providing a new perspective and thinking.With the historical images for research material and interpretation of thehistorical background the empirical facts behind the images, on this thesis, I mainlyanalyze from four aspects, view and upbringing of children, children and games,children and schools, children and labor from the book Images of Childhood: AnIllustrated Social History, show the development of Children’s status both in familyand society from the medieval to the modern and summarize her unique perspectiveand new image card history.By the study of Anita Schorsch’s book, I explore children’s social historyresearch and utilize images to prove history exert an influence on the study of historymethods in education history, which supplies a gap of the research the impact of family pattern to the function of education of the history of education in China.Professor Bingzhen Xiong is the representative of this area in Chinese cultural circlestudy will also gradually open up, this thesis is a try in the starting course of it.
