"Years is a river, the Yali people have waved passing through a period of centuries." As one of the Hundred Years College which are famous in Hunan Province, Yali Middle School is unique compared with many of her fellow. Yali Middle School was founded in1906by the civil society of Yale University. In recent years, it has attracted much attention in academia because of its "foreign background". However, through the reviewing and analyzing of existing research achievement, we nearly can’t find systematic research achievement in which Yali Middle School is a single object, let alone the achievement from the Perspective of Social History. As a founder of the Christian nature of the medium educational institution run by Western forces, what are the unique features of her in the governance of the school, the scholarship and the people? What is the unique impact these features have on the development of Yali Middle School through the Hundred years? What kind of influence Yali Middle has brought to the Hunan Education? This thesis aims to do a research on Yali Middle School for the first50years of the twentieth century through the perspective of social history. We see it as a small society, then do an in-depth study from the members of the school and the relationship between them, the relationship between the school and the outside world, the school life, the school functions and the social impact of it.Why we pay an attention on the first50years of the twentieth century, because the first50years is too special to ignore in the development of Yali Middle School. Through the analyzing, we have found a totally "new" Yali. In such a small society which is composed of the board of directors, principals, teachers, students and administrative staffs, members experience a kind of campus life which is different from other Chinese schools, western, fresh, rich and slightly stimulated. The relationship between members is close and harmonious. Its contact with the outside world is also frequent and friendly. And the emergence of this small society not only brings a new fresh wind to the education sector in Hunan Province, but also plays a certain demonstration of the effectiveness on the prevailing society. At the same time, it has a deep impact on the personality development and individual shaping of the members in this small society. More than a century, students graduated from Yali Middle School are active in all walks of life of the motherland. They also concern about their alma mater silently, blessing their alma mater a more brilliant tomorrow.
