Interest in applications of mindfulness-based approaches with adolescents has grown rapidly in recent times, and a large number of results suggest these are efficacious approaches to promoting mental health. However the research is still in its infancy. More attention has concentrated in clinical samples. rather than nonclinical samples. One objective of this study is to explore the relationship between the level of mindfulness and (a) mental health,(b) the positive and negative emotions, and (c)attention stability of high school students. The other objective is to explore the effect of5-min Mindfulness Meditation Exercises,an innovative form of mindfulness training, for nonclinical high school students. Method:89participants were from two classes of a high school grade1in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. One class(46) is chosed as the mindfulness training group, and the other (43) is as control group. Chinese version of Five Facet Mindfulness Questionaire,Middle School Students Mental Health scale, Positive and negative emotion scales and Attention stability tests were assessed at pre-training and post-training for all participants, After pre-test, mindfulness training group enter4weeks training. While control group has no training. A total of83valid data were included in analysis.43in the mindfulness training group and40in the control group. The Pearson correlation and independent samples t-test were used for statistical analysis. Results:Strong correlations were found between the level of mindfulness and (a) the level of mental health (r=0.364*, p=0.01),(b) positive emotions (r=0.302*, p=0.005), and (c) negative emotions (r=-0.247*, p=0.024).There is no correlation between the level of mindfulness and attention stability (r=0.117, p=0.293).Compare to the control group, partici-pants in mindfulness training group demonstrated significant increase in attention stability(t=3.029**, p=0.003),and the decrease in depression (t=-2.395*, p=0.019) and maladaptive (t=-2.196*, p=0.031). Conclusion:There are relationships between the level of mindfulness and mental health, positive and negative emotions in high school students.5-min Mindfulness Medi-tation Exercises is a promising intervention for attention stability and may reduce high school students depression, and maladaptive symptoms.
