Groud Work Involved In The Spiritual Life Of The Elderly Study

With the social economy developing, people’s standard of living rising generally, the social medical and health conditions improving, rate of birth and death rapidly declining, great changes have taken place in China’s population age structure. According to the survey, our country has entered the aging period at the end of the20th century, and been in the stage of being rapid ageing, and irreversibly will be an aging society in the21st century. There are more and more old people who have the ability of supporting themselves economically as our social welfare has improved greatly. But their spiritual demand becomes widespread and intense. It is more urgent for our society to meet these wealthier elderly people’s spiritual needs and make them live an easy and comfortable later life.This study selected JDS service retired veteran cadres as the research object to explore team work’s role in improving the quality of the elderly spiritual life. JDS service station, as a pension agency of the ministry of civil affairs, provides the elderly people with good daily life care, but is unaware of their spiritual needs. In this case, a household questionnaire survey on selected100elderly is carried out after the purposive sampling of the elderly at JDS service station. The questionnaire design includes the basic information of the elderly, the state of the economy of the elderly, their social support networks, their participation in social activities and their wish.Group work is mainly divided into two stages:the first phase of the group work is to improve the consciousness of the older spiritual need and make them build social support networks. On this basis the second phase of team work is carried out on the purpose of enriching old people’s social activities to meet their spiritual needs. What is different from the first stage is that in the second stage suggestions of activities are put forward by the elderly, while social workers just supplement, improve and perfect them and in the end integrate social resources to complete them together. This study found, group work to improve the quality of the elderly’s life has achieved a remarkable success. Elderly’s psychological needs has been greatly satisfied by participating in social activities and therefore they have set social support network in the event. But there are also some places worthy of reflection. First, take advantage of perspective on the elderly, not just look on them as vulnerable groups, Second better make a combination of three methods of social work. Later in the older institutions like the the JDS service station type to carry out activities to improve the quality of life of the spirit of the elderly should pay attention to the following questions. First, social work should strengthen the concern of the older institutions for the elderly emotional support; Second social work should be strengthened elderly staff of institutions of social work knowledge and learning;Third, social work can help older institutions to carry out more activities to enrich their spiritual life.
