Project-based learning was put forward as a part of Integrated Curriculum ofPractical Activity (ICPA) by a new round of the curriculum reform of basic education, signifying the shift in the way of learning. When implemented in math, project-basedlearning can, on the one hand, contribute to junior high school students’ experiencingthe process of learning and the passion of creating, and cultivating a scientific andserious attitude towards learning. On the other hand, it can also help to develop theirabilities of discovering, raising, analyzing and solving mathematical problems, as wellas their sense of creation and practical ability. Creativity, in a large sense, derives fromthe students’ active inquiry, and the successful inquiry can be determined by thediscovery of problems, which depends on their strong problem consciousness. Thus, itis crucially significant to cultivate junior high school students’ problem consciousness. In the process of math teaching in junior high school, the cultivation of problemconsciousness does not get the due attention, and meanwhile there is a lack of relatedtheoretical studies, both of which lead to the great loss of problem consciousness.Focusing on the project-based learning in math, the thesis discusses the cultivation ofproblem consciousness, and the innovation is that the thesis tries to explore the effectiveways of cultivating problem consciousness from the following three layers: schoolgoal-directed layer, classroom teaching layer, and the teacher-student layer. The body ofthe thesis consists of two parts. Based on the overview of the current status of researchboth at home and abroad, the conclusion of the first part is come to that there is a severeloss of junior high students’ problem consciousness after material survey andindividual interview record having been presented concerning students’ problemconsciousness. Moreover, the first part pays much more attention to analyzing thecauses of that loss. The second part is the core of the research, beginning with thetheoretical base and dealing with several ways of how to cultivate the problemconsciousness in math study.Based on the new round of curriculum reform of basic education, the thesis seeksto figure out the effective mechanism of cultivating and developing junior high students’problem consciousness by means of absorbing the previous research on the topic and applying the documentation method, observation method and interview method as wellas analyzing the current status of the students’ loss of problem consciousness.
