On the basis of literature research and interviews,this paper describes and analyses the development history of the M junior high school which carrys on the state-run&individual-sponsored pattern and the state-run pattern successively with the target, funding income and spending, property rights and management structure, infrastructure construction,management of teaching, maintaining of teachers, patterns of enrollment, evaluation of teaching quality and other aspects.lt also represents the twisty process of exploring for compulsory education of China to some extent.The article reputes that the state-run&individual-sponsored pattern the M junior high school shows is not the type which is usually defined as the new school system to seek their own development in the competition character ed by "the ownership and fixed assets of school belong to the government,school management rights is delegated to the President or other agents,operational mechanism is characterized by self-running,self-management and self-enrollment, educational fund is funded by the government for early period and gradually reduced and conceled during the normal operation,the school turns to social forces to acquire fund,attract and guide education consumption",but is another pattern which both receives a few government funding and tuition fees to students and then turn over some income to the state with mutually complementary characteristics. The model is led and control by the government,has achieved fine teaching results which both meets the needs of the people of school choice and also meet the demands of the government to raise education funds,and has brought a certain degree of social and economic benefits. However, the mode owns doubl characteristics that the state-run schools can obtain financial investment and the private schools can charge students,leads itself not to own as high autonomy as fully private schools, violates the basic principle of compulsory education,limits futher development of schools and increases the burden of the people.Along with social progress,the rich of the government finances as well as the pursuit of the idea of compulsory education fair from, the M junior high school eventually returns to the state-run pattern, ends awkward identity for a long period and reflects the progress in the exploration of compulsory education in China.
