As part of the surface system, image system is drawing increasingly intense attention in the teaching of geography. As the new Geography Course Standards and the "multiple textbooks based on one standard" are being carried out, a number of new geography textbooks have come forth which are contain modem education thoughts. This article selects two versions of new world geography textbooks, and they come from People’s Education Press, China’s Map Press. It researched on the images from the overall structure, quantity, type, quality and images of horizontal and vertical combinations. It analyzed the images of new world geography textbooks to find the advantages and problems in the image system.Through a comparative study on the two editions of world geography textbooks in the image system, this article aims to optimization strategy in authoring the image system of world geography textbooks. It hopes to provide references to the reform in the image system of the world geography textbooks.
