With the development of society, the amount of the elderly has been growing day byday. There has been13.56%senior citizen in China nowadays. Surprisingly, among theelderly people there is almost1/3that live alone. Moreover, young people have a newconception of successful career, family happiness and value of life, which frees themfrom the cliché of “staying in hometown is the best”. Hence a lot of graduates and youngpeople choose to work in another city. They cannot live with their parents. And thecitizens are tending to be aging faster. Consequently, some senior citizens who have losttheir spouse and live alone cannot get sufficient support from their children. This makesthe current phenomenon that “Empty Nest” senior citizen who has lost their spouse(empty nest citizens as following) is very common.Empty nest citizens will face a batch of problems. Such as low level of hesitancy,financial shorts, social communication and entertainment obstacles. Every single factorcould be a huge barrier to the empty nest elderly. To make things better, we are supposedto intervene rightly by using sociological method. We should follow the plans tointervene this social contradiction scientifically and regularly. By doing so, we hope wecan relieve or solve all kinds of plights of empty nest citizens. Nowadays, rather thancoming up with an essential solution, both domestic and overseas researches have onlyprovided some advices to set up some institute to make things less worse. The problemsstill remain.This paper makes a descriptive analysis over the phenomenon empty nest byinterviewing, detecting and analyzing. Sociological method is used as a scientificintervenes. It turns out that solving this plight is making progress. It also provideseffective instructions to social workers when they are intervening the same kind of cases.This can make the application of social work of empty nest phenomenon more practical.
