Debated for decades and has never been determined.This thesis research did not deliberately evades the focal point, but the difference to the previous scholars’ research way is that this paper focuses on the present situation of folk beliefs of Jilin S village which the market economy as the leading mode of social transformation in the late1980s until today, as well as institutional religion that the village of Buddhism from scratch, from the original believers covered every possible way and dared not to tell, by now, folk Buddhism belief system tend to mature and steady practice. Meanwhile, display the complex relationship of between folk beliefs and institutional religion which both unite pity and secretly game. The author is trying to reveal that this subtle and complex relationship reflects the role of significance and responsible play of men and women believers based on natural economy, which are influenced by traditional culture such as value to the realistic perceptual life, value to the human relations and value to the rank order.This thesis is divided into four parts. The first chapter is the introduction, includes how to put forward the problem, the research status, the source of the material, the research methods, the innovations and deficiencies. The second chapter mainly explain the fieldwork site of this paper, including the geographical environment of the fieldwork site, state of the economy, a living way and the demographic. The third chapter is mainly studied about People’s Daily life and folk beliefs form in the fieldwork site. The forth part, combined with the scholars’ research results, in-depth study and interpret the role of significance and responsible play of men and women believers influenced by traditional culture.
