Due to China’s urban expansion and acceleration of urban construction, arable land has been reduced rapidly. Urbanisation process has produced a large and complex group known as land-lost peasants. Every expropriation of0.067hectares of arable land results in1.5land-lost peasants. It is estimated that there should be about60million land-lost peasants in China at the moment."Farmers to citizens" in the city are an important part of these land-lost peasants. Compared with the ones who have lost lands but remain rural household registrations,they have to face many difficulties such as hard to adapt to the urban environment, lack of recognition and means of livelihood in the city. Their employment security issue has drawn great attention by the government, society and academia.This research chooses Guangzhou Liwan district Chongkou streets"’farmers to citizens" as study object, bases on their related employment services, analyses their employability and barriers to employment, and any other influencitng factors.This paper first introduces the enmployment situation of the "farmers to citizens" in the community including their basic information, employability, the concept of employment, employment will and government policy support. Through social work profesional working methods which are casework and group work, empowerment theory and strengths perspective theory, the pater analyses the project’s process,content and results. The purpose of this research is to summarise the functions of social work in viability enhancement, value realisation, and the construction of harmonious community.
