An Study On The Relation Among College Students’Alexithymia,Coping Style And Self-consistency

Basis on literature review, we combined the open-ended questionnaire survey with structured interview to construct the preliminary dimension of alexithymia.Then we made a scale of college students’ alexithymia with high reliability and validity according to metrology requirements.Taking use of this self-developed scale and other two scales as well, we surveyed the current situation and trait of alexithymia within college students, and explored the relationship of alexithymia and coping style and self consistency.The following conclusions were drawn from this study:(1) The College Students Alexithymia Scale includes four demensions:difficulty identifying feeling, difficulty describing feeling and extraversion thinking.lt has good reliability and validity,which can be used as a effective tool for further study.(2) The total level of current college students’ alexithymia generally in the mid to lower level,scores ranged from high to low is difficulty describing feeling, difficulty identifying feeling and extraversion thinking.(3) There are significant differences in major,family economic level, academic level and parental rearing styles.However,there is no significant differences in single child or not, gender,nation and the pressure self-perception,(4) Significant correlation exists between alexithymia,coping style and self consistency of college students.(5) difficulty describing feeling and difficulty identifying feeling can significantly predict positive coping styles, difficulty identifying feeling can significantly predict negative coping styles, difficulty identifying feeling, difficulty describing feeling, negative coping styles, positive coping styles and extraversion thinking can significantly predict self-consistency.(6) Coping style is the moderate variable of alexithymia and self-consistency.
