ObjectiveTo evaluate the current status and characteristics of behavioral problems among secondary vocational students, analyze the relationship between parenting style, childhood psychological abuse and neglect, alexithymia and the behavioral problems. This study can provide policy supports for the prevention and intervention of behavioral problems, and provide a theoretical basis for family intervention of secondary vocational school students.MethodsTotal of 1114 secondary vocational school students aged 11~18 years old in vocational school in Zhengzhou and Xinxiang were studied(580 boys and 534 girls). The scale of YSR,PBI,CPANS and TAS-20 were used to evaluate the relationship between family factors and behavioral problems.Demographic data(gender, only child, age, family structure, family address, family monthly income, parents' educational level, etc.)were collected. The relationship between behavioral problems and various factors of secondary vocational school students was analyzed.Results1.The total detection rate of secondary vocational students' behavioral problems was 14.8%,of which boys were 14.3% and girls were 15.4%.The top three behavioral problems of boys were withdrawal behavior(3.4%),thinking problem(3.3%)and aggressive behavior(2.9%).The top three of girls' behavioral problems were withdrawal behavior(3.9%),physical complaint(3.7%)and social problems(3.4%).The scores of girls' body complaints were higher than that of boys(P < 0.05),and the scores of thinking and disciplinary behavior were lower than those of boys(P < 0.05).2.The scores of the total behavioral problems and implicit behaviors were higher in subjects whose parents with junior high school and below than those with high school and above(P < 0.05).Students from core families had lower scores on implicit behaviors than those from non-core families(P < 0.05).The score of explicit behaviors of boys was higher than that of girls(P < 0.05).Students from rural areas had lower scores on explicit behaviors than those from cities or towns(P < 0.05).The explicit behaviors score of the family with total monthly income of 3000 RMB and above was higher than that the total monthly income of 3000 RMB or less(P < 0.05).3.33.5% of the students suffer from psychological abuse,45% students have been ignored, and 31.9% of the students have alexithymia.Students with behavioral problems were less cared and encouraged by parents than those without behavioral problems(P < 0.05).Parental control, psychological abuse and neglect in childhood and alexithymia were higher in students with behavioral problems than those without behavioral problems(P < 0.05).The students with alexithymia had less care and encouragement from parents. In addition, the students with alexithymia also had more parental control and childhood abuse and neglect from their parents(P < 0.05).4.The score of total behavioral problems was negatively related to parental care and encouragement(r=-0.31~-0.19),and positively correlated to parental control, childhood psychological abuse and neglect, and alexithymia(r=0.16~0.52).Alexithymia was negatively correlated with parental care and encouragement(r=-0.36~-0.17),and positively correlated with parental control, psychological abuse and neglect(r=0.10~0.38).5.Parental care had a negatively predictive effect on total behavior problems, and mother control had a positively predictive effect on total behavioral problems;childhood psychological abuse and neglect were positive predictors of behavioral problems.Alexithymia had a positively predictive effect on behavioral problems.6.The Bootstrap method was used to test the mediating effect and to control the influence of demographic variables. The alexithymia had a partial mediating role between mother care, control and father care and general behavior problems. The OR and 95% CI of indirect effects were 0.923(0.900,0.947)and 1.076(1.041,1.114)0.935(0.912,0.956),respectively.The mediating effects accounted for 46.1%,33.6%,and 32.1% of the total effects, respectively. In addition,Alexithymia mediates the impact of psychological abuse and neglect on total behavioral problems during childhood. The OR and 95% CI of the indirect effect are 1.021(1.014,1.030),and the mediating effect accounts for 22.9% of the total effect.Conclusions1.The prevalence of behavioral problems was 14.8% among secondary vocational students.Gender, family structure, parental education level, family address and family monthly income have obvious influence on behavioral problems of secondary vocational students.2.Students with behavioral problems were less cared and encouraged by parents, and they received more serious parental control and psychological abuse and neglect, and their alexithymia is also deeper than those without behavior problems.3.The behavioral problems are closely related to parental rearing style, psychological abuse and neglect, and emotional barrier.Alexithymia is also closely related to parental rearing style, and childhood psychological abuse and neglect.4.Parental care negatively predicts total behavioral problems.Mother control, childhood psychological abuse and neglect, and alexithymia positively predict total behavioral problems.5.Alexithymia plays a partial mediating role between parental rearing patterns(maternal care, control and father's care),childhood psychological abuse and neglect and behavioral problems.
