Comparative Study On The Current Situation Of Rural And City Outside Reading Of Middle School Student In Jilin Province

Outside reading plays an important part in enhancing the reading ability and prolongingthe classroom reading. It can benefit the students a lot. According to the relatedgovernment-made learning standards, outside reading is widely encouraged because of itsunique importance.Based on the Chinese Course Standard, this paper mainly focuses on the outside readingsituation of middle school students in Jilin Province with questionnaires to find out theexisting circumstances, the influencing factors, and also the differences between the studentsliving in cities and those in rural areas. According to the research, the students living in citieshave done better than those in rural areas; the junior middle school students are better thanthose in senior schools; and the junior middle school students in cities are the best of all.However, we have found some problems at the same time, such as teachers and parents’wrong attitudes towards outside reading, insufficient reading time, limited reading sources,unscientific reading plan and choice, and so on. In the paper, the author presents her advice.The research hopes to classify and analyze the current situations of the students’ outsidereading in Jilin province so as to provide useful information for the outside reading teachingreform and the Chinese course teachers.
