Since the Reform and Opening up, with the planned economic system transforming to the market economic system, China’s ownership form, distribution form, interests pattern and values have changed profoundly. Our country has entered a period of overall transition:the economic sectors, organization pattern and employment mode are getting more and more diverse; the interests-oriented dynamic mechanism propels the rapid development of the whole society.But the social transformation has given rise to new problems and conflicts while it provides new impetus for social development. The new interests pattern has yet completely come into being; the unbalanced development of urban areas and rural areas, different regions, economy and society is increasingly obvious; the problems concerned with people’s interests such as education, healthcare, housing, employment, safety in production and so on has become prominent; the enlarging gap of the distribution of income causes various social problems; the mass disturbances occur frequently. This situation shows that our country is in a crucial period when development coexists with challenges.While we grasp the development opportunity brought by social transformation, how to understand and deal with social conflicts and confine the bad consequences caused by conflicts to the range the society can withstand and how to make the conflicts play a positive role in keeping the society stable, promoting the social development and make our country live through the high contradiction phase are severe challenges our country faces and the important guarantee of the modernization and the smooth transition of society.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part is introduction that focuses on the research background and significance of the thesis. It also summarizes the researches the scholars at home and abroad have done up to now.The second part mainly analyses the relation between social transformation and social conflicts. First, it expounds the connotation of social transformation, the historical course of our country’s social transformation and its distinctive characteristics; second, it explains the concept of social conflict and the development process of social conflict theory; lastly, it discusses the relation between social transformation and social conflicts dialectically.The third part mainly studies our country’s social conflicts in the transitional period. It researches the status quo, characteristics, effects and causes of our country’s social conflicts in the transitional period according to our country’s reality.The fourth part explores the ways of resolving social conflicts. Based on the present reality of our country and the causes of social conflicts, it puts forward the ways of resolving the present social conflicts of our country in respects of economy, politics and culture.
