To understand how the instructional assessment is carried out in kindergartens, improve this work and make the teacher training focused on educational assessment more effective; the researcher conducted a content analysis of343children’s anecdotal records collected from26teachers in2kindergartens and a questionnaire survey of73teachers from5kindergartens.The results show that the teachers write anecdotal records very widely in kindergartens, although they don’t fully understand the instructional purposes of this work. Most teachers do not possess necessary assessment literacy, and perform poorly in assessment planning, evidence collecting, standards choosing and judgments making. Teachers are not very willing to carry out instructional assessment in their everyday work, although they generally recognize its value. With these conclusions, this paper suggests that the in-service training should respond to the teachers’real needs, meanwhile, the renewal of principals’ideas and directing teachers’assessing process individually are two other important ways to develop teachers’assessment literacy and promote the quality of instructional assessment in kindergartens.
