Geo-spatial imagination ability is one of the key abilities that geography discipline triesto develop, and many countries attach a great deal of value to it. Influenced by many factors,middle-school student’s geo-spatial imagination ability has certain difference. But on thewhole, middle school students ’ space imagination are generally poor, which has become abottleneck in geography teaching and learning. Throughout the training strategiesboth at home and abroad, mold visual teaching method is the extensively applied and mosteffective way, which is loved by the majority of front-line teachers. However, years ofteaching results show that, although teachers are using mold visual teaching method todevelop students’ geo-spatial imagination abilities, its effect is not actually obvious, students ’space imagination still did not improve significantly. Then we found that most geographyteachers are not clear about the mold visual teaching method, which lead to the result thatthey wouldn’t make a rational selection and application in teaching.On the basis of summarizing the related research at home and abroad, this article dividesmold visual teaching method into three categories, they are plane direct-viewing kind ofmethod, three-dimensional direct-viewing kind of method and the abstract diagramdirect-viewing kind of method. Based on their different characteristics and functions, Iproposed the training strategy of space imagination at different angles: plane direct-viewingkind of method would help students accumulate geo-spatial Representation of the material,which will lay a foundation for the development of spatial ability; Based on three-dimensionaldirect-viewing kind of method, we will try to guide students to understand geographic thingsfrom plane to solid, from static to dynamic; Based on the abstract diagram direct-viewingkind of method, we will try to guide students to understand geographic things from theconcrete to the abstract; Based on the combination of a variety of intuitive methods, we willtry to develop students’ imagination ability and graphic interchange ability.In order to verify the teaching effectiveness of this study, I chose two classes to made anexperiment during the internship period. After a period of teaching, spatial ability test scoresof experimental class are significantly higher than that in comparative class, which shows thatusing mold visual teaching method in correct ways will improve students’ geo-spatial ability.At the same time, I also found some problems in the research and I will be more carefully inthe future research.
