The total population of Gansu Province is the second most in north-west china,the proportion of the population is very large in the rural areas. Gansu Province isan economically underdeveloped area. Great changes on the age structure of thepopulation have taken place in Gansu Province in recent years, the working-age andthe elderly population have gradually increased, and the juvenile population havegradually reduce. The working-age population increased continuously, provided asignificant proportion of the labor force. But the concept of employment is stillunreasonable, the overall quality of the labor is low. The labor demand havechanged slowly. So the contradiction between labor supply and dema nd isprominent, and employment pressure still exist.This paper used the three indicators of the working-age population, the laborforce participation rate and quality, analysised the changes in the age structure of thepopulation on the labor supply in Gansu Province; also used the three indicators oflabor demand, the demand for professional and skilled labor, and three industriallabor demand, analysised the age structure of the population changes in labordemand indicators in Gansu Province. Then combined with the labor supply anddemand conditions, analysised the situation in the employment market in GansuProvince.According to the description and analysis of the historical changes in thepopulation age structure and the labor supply and demand situat ion on the basis ofquantitative analysis, made predictions that the labor supply and demand situation inthe next10years in Gansu Province.In accordance with the Gansu province labor supply and demand forecastingresults under the conditions, combined with Gansu province labor interprovincialmigration situation, without considering labor interprovincial flow conditions inGansu province, the labor supply and demand contradiction still nervous in the next10years, labor supply is greater than demand, a nd the gap between supply anddemand will be more and more big, the employment situation is grim. Butconsidering labor interprovincial mobility, the opposite changes in the labor supplyand demand, the labor supply is less than demand, and the gap between supply and demand will be more and more small. The employment of Gansu province from theessence, not only the total labor supply and demand of the problem, it is the qualityof the labor force and employment problem.This paper suggests, Gansu Province, according to the actual situation, tostabilize the low birth rate, to optimize the age structure of the population; strengthenthe building of human capital investment, to improve the quality of the labor force;improve the labor market institutions, and guide rational labor mobility; improve theemployment service system, broaden the channels of employment; accelerate thereasonable adjustment of the industrial structure, to provide more employmentopportunities; positive development of the industry for the elderly and promoteemployment.
