The wheel of history has entered the21st century. In the new history period, how toenhance the actual effect of ideological and political education in university is a majorrealistic problem that the ideological and political education workers face, needing to besolved urgently. As to this problem, based on the need theory as the breakthrough point, thisessay elaborates on the most representative Mallow’s hierarchy of needs theory and ORRdefer ERG theory as well as the needs of Marxist theory. Based on the need theory, the essaysystematically analyzes the need theory enlightenment to university ideological and politicaleducation. Combining with the reality, the paper comprehensively analyzes the problems andits reasons of the needs theory existing in the application of the university ideological andpolitical education. As to the problems and reasons existing in the application of theuniversity ideological and political education, the paper puts forward the application principleof need theory in the university ideological and political education and discusses themeasures of the needs theory applied in the university ideological and political educationfrom the five aspects of concept, content, method, carrier, mechanism.This article altogether is divided into five parts:Part one: introduction. This part mainly expounds the research background andsignificance, analyzes the research status at home and abroad and the reviewing of status quo,puts forward the research ideas and research methods, points out the innovation of this paperand makes a solid foundation for the next study.Part two: over viewing the needs theory. First of all, this part, from the definition of theneed, elaborates on the understanding the connotation from all walks of life at home andabroad and then analyzes the characteristics of the needs. That is to say, the needs shouldhave the five characteristics such as dynamic, historical, social diversity, development andduality. On this basis, mallow’s need theory, ORR diver’s ERG theory, and the needs of theMarxist theory have been summarized and evaluated.Part three: the enlightenment of the need theory to university ideological and politicaleducation. Firstly, this part puts forward that the education should pay close attention to the students’ basic material needs. In the following, proposes that the education should be good atguiding the students’ needs from low level to high level, then puts forward that the educationshould emphasize the difference of students’ needs. At last, proposes that the educationshould guide students’ development in the same direction with social development.Part four: the analysis of problems and its reasons of the needs theory existing in theapplication of the university ideological and political education. Firstly, this part expoundsthe problems existing in the application of the ideological and political education inuniversities, including the following three aspects: The ideological and political education oftargeted doesn’t fit the students’ actual needs. There exists certain disparity betweeneducators quality and the development of the times demand. The current system status has certaindisparity with the characteristics of college students’ needs. Then, the paper analyzes the causes. Theideological and political education in universities ignores the students’ major needs, thedynamic function of need and the social soil to produce students’ need.Part five: the analysis of the application principles and measures of the universityideological and political education. This part firstly expounds the application principles of theeducation, including the following four aspects: insisting on the principle of party spirit as thebase of directivity, adhering to the people-oriented, adhering to the principle of subjectivity,close to the actual efficiency principles, and adhering to the principle of positive interactionservice. Then discusses the measures of the needs theory applied in the ideological andpolitical university education from the five aspects of concept, content, method, carrier,mechanism.
