| China’s market transformation is involved in the transformation of economic andsocial structure. In the process, the market system has integrated the social structure, andfundamentally changed traditional urban-rural relationships, in which rural marketizationhas greatly influenced the structure and characteristics of the rural society. In the case ofChina’s urban and rural dual structure system and that the contradiction between humanand land is difficult to change fundamentally in the short term, it has become a feasibleway to increase farmers’ income through the transformation of agriculturalindustrialization and marketization, and through the reform of structure of agriculturalproduction. A case study of Y village in northern Jiangsu Province has proved that ruralagents can be a medium which connects peasants and the big market in the process ofindustrial agriculture marketization. The rural agents are playing a role of organizingfarmers, dredging the circulation channel, and guiding the transformation of agriculturalstructure, and thus they tend to be a new group in the transformation of our rural society.Using the method of case study, the author made a field survey on Y village, a ruralcommunity in Jiangsu province, which is chartered by flowers and trees and has a maturemarket. Based on the theory of embeddedness in economic sociology and through thedescription of the structure of the spheres, this paper analyses how the rural agents usevillage relationship resources to achieve flowers and trees trade, in order to present thecomplex image of the process of interaction between relationships from the microperspective and reveal the intrinsic logic and trend of the market influence on localsociety. As locals, rural agents cannot progress without the support of their social relationshipin which economic behavior is embedded. Study shows that in the marketization of Yvillage, its traditional structure of gradual difference is deve loping into a kind of circle-layer structure which is a mixture of market structure and local structure. Circlerefers to a concentric circle horizontally structured by market actors; And "layer" refers toa hierarchical structure longitudinally connected. In addition to the born relationships ofblood and geography, rural agents attempt to build relationships resources of their ownaccord. And as a result of this, their market behavior has a dual character, which is neithercompletely rational nor traditional relational, but that the agents actively use their variousrelations to make the trade, and at the same time, the interaction is restrained andintegrated by local relationship. This brings a solidified pattern of the village marketrelationship and has greatly influenced village governance, class dividing and villagers’sense on work and life, and so on. I insist on that it is a benign development path driven bythe "hidden" agricultural revolution. And with the operation of rural agents, it has becomea local market mode of Chinese characteristics and has built a new structure of ruralsociety under the circumstances of market transformation at present. |
