These days have seen Internet becoming the most convenient way for people tocommunicate with each other, get massive information, deal with work and learnas wellas have fun. Compared with adults, teenagers are more likely to be influenced by newthings thus in this Internet age, parents are worrying about educating their kids.According to previous studies, parents were suffering from lacking of Internet parentingskills.The aim of this research included1)finding out the situation of junior schoolstudents’ Internet usage,2)studying the effects of home Internet use preference onjunior school students’ academic achievement, which was the most important task and3)observing that how the two dimensions of Internet parenting style moderated theeffects. After reviewing previous studies, this study chose learning, information gaining,communicating, entertainment and self-finding and self-improvement as independentvariables and then added the change of score of final examination during two semestersinto the model as dependent variable. Besides, this research considered the moderatingeffect of Internet parenting styles. Gender, family economic status, etc. were consideredas the control variables.This research was conducted in a junior school in Hunanprovince. More than1000questionnaires were provided, and998of them were retrievedwith870valid.The collected data were proved to be valid and typical.The conclusions were the following:1)learning and self-finding andself-improvement preference of internet use were strongly connected to largerimprovement of academic achievement while entertainment worked the otherway around2) with internet parenting style moderating the effects;3)gender,economic status and background of parents influenced internet use preferencesand achievements.
