As a new thing, carpooling has been concerned widely, since the emergence inChina. Exploring the factors that impact the carpool development, and guiding correctlyof carpooling, no doubt solve the problem of urban traffic congestion and has a greatpractical significance.This study analyzes the phenomenon of carpool about China’s urban residents fromthe perspective of the “relationship” by questionnaire and interview.Against the existing economic capital theory and cultural capital theory, raised a newhypotheses: The behavior of the Chinese people’s carpool is affected by " relationship "factors. The focus of this study conclusions include: Compared with the weak relationshipcrowd, China’s urban residents are more likely to carpool with strong relationship crowd;the closeness of the relationship leads to the difference of trust degree, and the differenceof trust degree leads to the difference of the acts about carpool.The study discusses how to build the large-scale promotion of carpooling by buildinginstitutional trust. Besides, the study has responded to the economic and cultural capitaltheory.
