Autistics and their families gradually arise the public attention and they are gettingincreasing concern by more people in China. The autistic people can be divided into threegroups based on their age: children, adolescents and adults. For years, Chinese scholars havebeen focusing more on children than adolescents and adults.The paper is based on the case study of a13-year-old student, grade6, in one of theWuhan junior school and is guided by the theory of REBT (rational emotive behavior therapy).The author intervenes into five aspects: lack of self-confidence, tight parent-child relationship,behavioral problems, poor academic performance, having difficulties fitting in the society. Wehave made remarkable achievement in the past nine months.The findings are as follows: Firstly, REBT can be used to intervene adolescent autistic tochange their irrational beliefs, improve their self-confidence; change the relationship betweenthe adolescent autistic and his mother; help him fit into society well. Secondly, REBT can beused to intervene adolescent autistic to alter their behavior problems with the help of behaviormodification. Thirdly, the change on irrational beliefs can help the adolescent autistic improvetheir learning attitudes, learning interests, however, it has no significant effect on improvingtheir learning ability. Finally, the paper finds that REBT also applies for non-cognitive peopleunder certain conditions.
