The Application Of Rational Behavioral Therapy In Youth Social Work

In the mid 1950s, New York clinical psychologist Abraham Ellis created REBT (Rational Emotive behaviors Therapy, REBT). This therapy believes that everyone has rational faith and irrational faith and people will not achieve their goals and intentions with irrational thinking, perceiving and acting by causing unnecessary problems, such as anxiety, depression. REBT also assumes that people to some extent can choose the way of their live. Even though there are some sort of social or physical limitations, people can greatly change themselves, which can reduce the mood disorders by transforming the irrational belief to rational one with certain assistance from therapist or people themselves.Adolescence is a significant time for youth belief formation. From the point of developmental psychology, teenager is between mature and immature. Their cognitive style, ideas, beliefs, values are in the process of gradually mature and self-explore. Therefore, the rationality of belief or not has a significant impact on their emotional experience and behavior, and determines their success on emotional experience and behavior adaption.The paper is an exploration of REBT on the youth problem solving by adopting teenagers social case work. In the case study, the researcher has made a series of efforts for the teenagers by rebuilding the their faith, eliminating their emotional disturbance, correcting their unreasonable behavior and helping them correctly treat themselves, others, and the external environment. Based on the implementation effect of the case, the researcher has made some relative discussion and summary and put forward suggestions for further research.
