The medical ethics education in traditional Chinese medicine collegesand universities, as the primary task of traditional Chinese medicineeducation, is the important legacy of the traditional Chinese medicine’sdoctrines of “Medicine is Humanity and Benevolence” and “Great MedicineLies in Sincerity and Good Faith”, and the important way for medicalstudents to develop and expand the traditional Chinese medical culture,develop noble morality of medical treatment and strengthen the belief inChinese medicine.Investigation&analysis and documentary research method are appliedin this paper to analyze and elaborate the status quo of medical ethicseducation in traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities and thenput forward a number of measures to strengthen medical ethics education.The paper consists of four parts:The first part presents an overview of the relevant concepts on theconnotative meaning of medical ethics and the medical ethics education intraditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities, as well as thecontents of the medical ethics education in traditional Chinese medicinecolleges and universities.The second part gives a detailed analysis on the status of medical ethicseducation in traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities. In thispart, the achievements of medical ethics education are summarized based onsurvey data: Firstly, medical ethics education is faced with goodopportunities; secondly, a medical ethics education model has beenestablished preliminarily in traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities; and thirdly, the cultivation level of medical ethics of studentsare being improved. Meanwhile, the deficiencies in medical ethicseducation of traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities are alsopointed out, including: the lack of adequate emphasis on medical ethicseducation; unreasonable design of curriculum system (includingunreasonable setting of curriculum period; tedious and lagging educationcontents; less practicalness of ethics education); imperfection of teachingteam in terms of quantity and quality.The third part analyzes the cause of the problems in medical ethicseducation of traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities: theimpact of social factors, including the negative impact of the marketeconomy and the medical treatment and health care system itself; theproblems in medical ethics education of traditional Chinese medicinecolleges and universities; some students’ lack of their medical ethicsaccomplishment.The fourth part proposes the following countermeasures with respect tothe deficiencies in medical ethics education of traditional Chinese medicinecolleges and universities: First, prepare scientific and reasonable contentsof medical ethics education, including the optimization of medical ethicseducation curriculum, enhancing of humanistic quality training and theexploration of traditional medical ethics education resources. Second,optimize the objective of medical ethics education, and establish a fair andreasonable assessment system. Third, strengthen the long-term medicalethics education, and improve the pertinence of medical ethics education.Fourth, improve the quality of teachers and teacher-student relationship.Fifth, innovate medical ethics education approaches, including the trainingof medical ethics idea of medical students by means of case method;example teaching and ritual teaching in medical ethics education; developthe medical ethics emotion of Chinese medical students through practicalteaching. Sixth, cultivate the Chinese medical students’ spirit of“selfrestraining in privacy” by use of implicit educational resources.
