Chinese course aims at teaching students the practical use of native languageand its core task is to cultivate the students’ ability to use language and words.Understanding and using of language is inseparable from the context. Context is aimportant concept in the theory of verbal communication. The Chinese course is aspecial parole interactive environment, that is, teaching context whose peculiarity liesin its fixed interactive participant. The interactive object of teaching context isteacher, students. Their topic is stem from the textbook which is他he center ofteaching parole and is the content of the teachers and students dialogue and objects.Textbook is am important part of teaching context in the classes. The selectionis the main part of Chinese textbooks which is decisive in interactive topic. Inclassroom teaching activities, when teachers and students are making dialogues in theprocess of teaching, textbooks’ selection is the topic of the communication betweenteachers and students, as well as the content of the dialogues.In reading activities, theteacher explains the text while students are reading the text. The teacher and studentshave entered the selection context which was set by the author.In the dialogue for theauthor’s interactions with the teachers and students, the selections’ content is not theinteracting topic between the teacher and the author. It is also the topic betweenstudents and the author.Thus, the selections of textbook make up the interactiveenvironment of class teaching that is the context of selections. There are certainregularity and directivity in it.And it makes up the major context of Chinese course.As to the research of context, there are experts from home and abroad such asFirth, Halliday, Fishman and Hymes as well as some domestic ones: Chen Wangdao,Wang Dechun, Zhang Zhigong etc. They all hold their own opinions on the concept ofparole. Different scholars vary on the definition of context. In brief, they can beroughly divided into two groups. The first group believes that “Language is theenvironment of parole unit”, while the second group thinks that “parole is theenvironment for language applications”. This thesis analyzes the contest of selectionsfrom PEP edition textbooks from the perspective of applied linguistics. According tothe practical situations of parole interactions, it combines the contextual view of ChenWangdao. It determines the selection factors of context analysis, namely the "who""under what circumstances""based on what the psychological""to whom""what isthe topic" how""what has been said". It makes deep survey into the context ofChinese textbooks for junior middle school selections’ feature, to obtain someenlightments,and makes every effort to improve the compile of Chinese textbooks.The thesis makes relevant literature review through documentary method, usingthe method of content analysis on the PEP edition textbooks of junior high schools. Itsummarizes the five major features of the PEP edition textbooks of junior high schools through tabulation, sorting, induction and analysis. First, there is a lack ofdiversity and deficiency concerning the authors’ background. Second, there areleadings and limitations for the authors’ emotional tendency. Third, there are diversityand ambiguity for readers. Fourth, there are the diversity and personalized languages.Fifth, there are comprehensive extension and non-daily tendency in the topics.
