A Case Study Of Entrepreneurial Universities Research Organizations In The United States

Diversified development mode of universities in the United States has been presented at the end of the19th century, and research universities started to forward on the road of entrepreneurship. On the top of the trend of the development of the entrepreneurial university, MIT embodied various forms of development mode, which also revealed the changing trend of the new development of relations among universities, governments and enterprises. Reasonable organizational structure of the academic research organizations and scientific operational mechanism played a very important role a very important role in entrepreneurial universities.Firstly, the thesis cleared up the researches on entrepreneurial universities at home and abroad. Secondly, the thesis further researched and analyzed the organizational changes, the evolution of the function and sources of funding of the MIT research organizations of three periods, i.e. from the late19th century to the late1930s, the late1940s to the early1970s and the early1980s up to now. Thus, four significant features of the MIT research organizations, i.e. effective research contract organization, developed technology transfer organization, diversified funding sources and strong scientific research strength, were summarized. Finally, based on the above analysis and research, countermeasures and suggestions that help to advance the construction of China’s entrepreneurial university which learn from the successful experience of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are suggested.This study put forward recommendations and revelation of the development of the entrepreneurial university from four aspects. Firstly, our government should provide entrepreneurship policy to support the university, research and formulate related policies encouraging the combination of produce, vigorously stimulate cooperation between universities and industries through oriented policies, and make efforts to carry out the research and development of innovative technologies. Secondly, universities should expand channels of research funding sources, serve communities through a number of channels, and create more social value. Thirdly, universities should establish inner dedicated technology transformation organizations, put the knowledge into the practical application and play a role in promoting knowledge into productivity, and further promote social progress. Fourthly, our government should set up research and innovation platform, centralize the power of the parties to play a vanguard role through the establishment of innovative business models, and make a considerable development for entrepreneurial universities to make a greater contribution to the economic and social construction.
