In recent years, the English language as a global language is more and more influential. To learn it efficiently, learners are required to master four basic skills, namely, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Although deaf students can not "speak", they still have their own words to express the ideas. As one of the basic skills, reading plays a fundamental role, which can improve readers’perception and also help improve listening, speaking and writing. So the deaf senior high school students should pay more attention to the improvement of English reading skill.This thesis is aimed at finding out whether the enlargement of vocabulary, enrichment of background knowledge, and increase the reading rate can benefit the students’English reading,12senior students at Dalian Blind and Deaf School are involved in the experiment. The experimental class consists of6students who received the reading strategies’practice, while the control class is composed of6students who received the regular training of reading comprehension. In the experiment, four instruments were used to prove the validity of the experiment. They are pre-test and post-test. Through data analysis, the reading strategies are really beneficial to the experimental students. The research results are:(1) reading speed of the students in the experiment class is faster than before (2) the correctness of their answers to the English reading comprehension is improved than before (3) they can understand their English reading passage more comprehensibly.This paper consists of five parts. In the first chapter three research questions were raised. Then the second chapter lists the literature review both at home and abroad. The third chapter will explain the research methods of the study. The fourth chapter will elaborate the results and discussion to the three research questions. The last part is the conclusion of this study which restate the main achievement and significance of the study.
