A Study Of The Roles Of The National Defense Education In The Formation Of Ideals And Beliefs Of College Students

Education of ideas and beliefs is the key to any nations and person. Our party and government have always laid great emphasis on the education of ideas and beliefs, especially on the systematic education of students in colleges and universities. However, under the historical background of reform and opening-up, as a result of the interest-oriented market principle as well as the diversity of values, an increasing number of problems have appeared in the education of ideas and beliefs. What’s worse, crisis of beliefs has even arisen among some college students. Therefore, considering the seriousness of this problem, a majority of educators have taken various steps to improve the education of ideas and beliefs. For instance, it is a new try to take advantage of national defense education to promote the education of ideas and beliefs. Since national defense education aims at upgrading the awareness of national defense among college students, the present thesis is designed to study how to transform the awareness of national defense into strong beliefs of college students.According to the principle of educational psychology, the formation of one’s ideas and beliefs is a constant process of one’s cognition, emotion, motivation and actions as well as a process of identification of personal values, national values and moral values. Among them, the identification of national values is a key element, as it encourages people to combine their great wishes with the responsibility of contributing to the nations and inspires them to strength their ideas and beliefs as well as patriotism. By adopting both the theoretical and empirical approaches, and based on the objective statistics and scientific analysis of questionnaires and literature, the author made an in-depth study of the characteristics and problems of education of ideas and beliefs among college students, for the purpose of giving full play to the function of national defense education. In order to upgrade the goals of national defense education, we should transform the personal educational goals into goals of becoming national talents, and transform the patriotism into ideas of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Moreover, we should advance our life pursuit during the process of national defense education, namely, we are supposed to imitate and learn the good manners of soldiers, master the skills of national defense, control our behaviors and improve the collectivist spirit. Besides, we should also temper our wills during the process of national defense education, namely, we can ameliorate our honor concept and strength our will through military training, and also can learn to improve self-discipline and self-control in our daily life. In a word, it is sensible to integrate the educational resource of national defense so as to raise the level of the education of ideas and beliefs among college students.
