Metro is one of the public transportations in modern large cities, taking metro has become a customary trip mode of urban residents. Metro is the result of highly-developed science and technology, also a result of developed city society, it represents the advanced stage of urbanization, industrialization and modernization. As a symbol of modern technology, metro has revolutionized people’s sense of time, expanded their living space and daily life, at the same time of changing the trip mode of urban residents. In fact, the experience of "time" and "space" of residents in the modern city society is different from that of traditional rural society. Modernization and Industrialization has made daily lives of ordinary people alienated and diverse, the time life and space life of urban residents has been reconstructed under the background of modern city. The thesis will taking metro as a starting point, to explore how the revolution and reconstruction occur.The main body of the thesis includes four chapters. In the first Chapter, I will discuss the relationship between transportation and the time life and space life of human beings, and to take Shanghai for example, to discuss the impact of the urban public transportation innovation on daily lives of urban residents. In the second Chapter, I will explain how metro discipline and control people through three means of industrialized time, commercialized time and public time. In Chapter three, I will discuss how the metro stations and carriages has become a new kind of urban public space, and to explain the expansion and extension of citizen’s life space. In the last Chapter, I will make some reflections toward the modern city life, and the folklore and Folkloristics under the technological era.
