Centering on the College Entrance Examination for a long time, the artfoundation course has no systematic textbooks. The quality of teaching largelydepends on teacher’s personal experience. However, there are a lot ofdisadvantages in teaching because it is limited to the content and form of theCollege Entrance Examination. Teachers often pay more attention to improvingthe students’ painting skills instead of their self-cultivation. As a consequence, itis disjointed between basic education and university education. As is advocated in this paper, during the art foundation course, teachers shouldregard students as the main body to motivate their independent creative abilityand art potential. We should lay emphasis on their personality development. Theinnovation of teaching segments, such as teaching aims, teaching procedures andteaching assessments, is especially important. Only in this way can we helpstudents to achieve the self-realization. Furthermore, they can become a personwho posesses the independent creativity and critical thinking ability.
