Modeling is an important method in physics, the physical model teaching plays animportant role in physics teaching. To understand the status quo of rural middle schoolphysical model teaching and to analyze the existing problems will help to improve the qualityof rural middle school physics teaching.Firstly, this study introduces and clariifes the concept of physical model and commonmodel classiifcation after referring to a lot of literature on physical model teaching; secondly,this study designs a questionnaire from the four aspects of students’ interest in the subject,their physics cognitive level, the physical model teaching signiifcance and their consciousnessof using physical model; and the result of interview on several students and teachers are statedand discussed so as to enrich and improve the research.Through comprehensive analysis of all the results, the author draws the followingconclusions:(1) The students perform low interest in learning physics, and their learningeffect is not so satisfactory. Many students lack of suitable physical learning methods.(2) Thestudents are not so clear about the concept and classiifcation of physical model. Theirknowledge about physical model is not so systematic.(3) The student has not fully realize thesigniifcance of physical model,moreover exam-oriented education is ingrained.(4) Thestudents perform low consciousness in using the physical model.(5) The students lack ofability to set up the physical model as well as to solve the actual problem.(6) The teacher aretied too much in the process of teaching, which hinders the physical model teaching fromactually implementing.(7) Different grades and different genders show different degree ofunderstanding and mastering the physical model.In order to make the teaching method of physical model be actually implemented andmore widely promoted, as well as to help rural middle school students to overcome thediiffculties in physical learning so as to improve their physics learning eiffciency,this paperput forward some constructive countermeasures according to the research results, studentspractical situation, the characteristics of physics as well as the combination of the a’uthorsown teaching experience in the last chapter, such as improving students’ interest in learning physics, laying emphasis on guiding students, strengthening students’ ability to set up model,enhancing teacher’s physical model teaching awareness, penetrating the physical model indaily physics teaching to deepen st’udents understanding.
