In the background of quality-oriented education, it is required that we should focus on the education of innovative talents who can adapt to the future society. We should center students’quality of innovation, changing education of adaptation into education of innovation.Senior high period is very important to develop students’ability and quality. Besides, Chinese Language is a fundamental subject. Therefore, the teaching of Chinese Language in Senior High school must focus on the development of students’innovative thinking and ability, and especially the development of imagination.Ancient poem is a unique type of literature. It consists of emotion, imagination and symbolization. Ancient poems with a history of more than a thousand years are a mysterious world of arts. There are dramatic differences and big gap between the world of ancient poems and the real world where students live. In other words, it is a surrealistic space of arts.Ancient poem appreciation is an activity of soul. Poets’ sensitive and deep heart lies behind the brief words of poems. When people read poems, he actually steps into another space and into the poets’ soul, exploring and feeling the countless emotions between lines.In the teaching of ancient poems in Senior High school, both teachers and students are making a creation. In the practice of teaching, it is found that if teacher teaches in a simple and formularized way:introduce the background of poems and the poets-translate words and sentences-recite, then students’ appreciation and analysis of poems will be formularized. Students will gradually lose their interets in poems and finally lose their expectation of reading culture classics.Using features like ambiguity and leaping, this essay will divide22ancient poems(compulsory Chinese Language textbook1-5, People’s Education Edition) into3new categories(pictograph imagination, analogy imagination, conjectural imagination)with literature research and action research applied instead of the traditional categories of imagination itself. This essay will discuss how to develop students’ imagination by ancient poems through actual poem analysis according to the three categories of imagination.
