Higher education of science has a great impact on the cultivation of theinnovative talents and the establishment of the innovative country. As the carrier andthe bridge of higher education of science, the courses play an important role inpromoting the reform of higher education of science and improving the quality ofhigher education. After the National Higher Science Education Forum (referred as"Lanzhou Conference), higher science education in China has made a rapid progress.However, with the arrival of the era of knowledge and economy, the newsociol-economic development proposes new requirements to higher science education.How to improve the quality of higher education and accelerate the cultivation ofinnovative talents has great significance for the promotion of sociol-economicdevelopment and the improvement of our comprehensive national strength. HigherEducation in the United States is in a leading position in the world’s academic fieldand science disciplines. Therefore, this study selects some of the representativeuniversities and the typical science majors of the colleges and universities in Chinaand the United States as the object of the study, analyses the Sino-American higherscience education curriculum system from the perspective of course objectives, coursestructure and content, credit hours, and the number of courses as well as the coursetiming, and finds the following questions: the objectives of Chinese higher scienceeducation course are not clear; the structure of courses are irrational which includingthe overweight of general education courses, a relatively small proportion ofprofessional courses, and the unreasonable proportion of compulsory courses andelective courses which means that the students’ right to choose smaller; and thedefects of the course evaluation system as well as the imperfection of the coursemanagement system. According to the resulting problems of the analysis and takingthe example of American higher science education, this paper attempts to put forwardthe following recommendations in order to promote the development of China’sHigher Education: making the course objectives clear and explicit according to the course objectives and higher education, and making it kept accordance with the aimsof education and professional training and making it as a carrier of the educationalgoals in the actual teaching activities; adjust the proportion of the courses andrationalize the course structure rationalize; improve the course evaluation system toensure the quality of education and teaching; establish a comprehensive coursemanagement system.
