IntroductionSleep has an important affect on human psychosomatic health. It has found that poorquality of sleep was closely related with depression, anxiety, drug abuse, alcohol dependence, cardiovascular disease and suicide. As the social pressure increased, researchers are payingmore and more attention on the mechanisms which perceived stress impact on sleep quality. For instance, what mental qualities can lead to different level of perceived stress, and thenmake sleep quality different? What mental qualities have a direct or indirect impact on sleep? As well as the mechanisms are undefined. It is extremely necessary to explore these questionsin adjusting psychological state, improving the quality of sleep and promoting physical andmental health.Previous studies showed that, as one part of high pressure groups, graduate students hadsevere sleep problems. Therefore, this study chose graduate student as the research subject, explored perfectionism, state-trait anxiety, perceived stress and other mental qualities’influence on sleep quality and researched these mental qualities’ mechanisms from theperspective of psychology such as personality and emotion. This study would contribute tointervening master students’ mental health and helping them conduct stress management, increase their sleep quality and enhance their physical and mental health from the aspect oftheory.Methods581master’s graduate students who aged from20to33years old were recruited fromfive colleges in Harbin by convenient cluster sampling. All participants were administratedwith self-reported questionnaires, included Chinese Perceived Stress Scale(CPSS), PittsburghSleep Quality Index (PSQI), Chinese Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(CFMPS)and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI). All data were analyzed by T-test of Independent,Pearson Correlation, Regression Analysis and Structure Equation Model (SEM). Results&Conclusions(1)The level of master’s graduate students perceived stress and maladaptiveperfectionism was below the average, the level of adaptive perfectionism, state anxiety andtrait anxiety was high, master’s graduate students’ sleep quality was poor; and each ofperceived stress and sleep quality were significantly different in some demographicalvariables.(2)Each two of the four variables which are perceived stress, perfectionism, state-traitanxiety and sleep quality showed significant correlation.(3)Feeling of tension, sense of out of control of the perceived stress significantlypredicted PSQI, and the trait anxiety, maladaptive perfectionism, perceived stress and stateanxiety together predicted PSQI.(4)Perceived stress had significant direct and positive impact on sleep quality, and it alsoaffected sleep quality through the state anxiety indirectly, that was state anxiety played thepartial mediating role between perceived stress and sleep quality.(5)State anxiety had significant direct and positive impact on sleep quality; trait anxietyhad no direct significant impact on sleep quality, it affected sleep quality through theperceived stress or state anxiety indirectly, that was perceived stress or state anxiety playedthe complete mediating role between trait anxiety and sleep quality.(6)Maladaptive perfectionism had significant direct and positive impact on sleep quality, and it also affected sleep quality through the trait anxiety, perceived stress and state anxietyindirectly, that was trait anxiety, perceived stress and state anxiety to form chain played thepartial mediating role between maladaptive perfectionism and sleep quality; adaptiveperfectionism had no direct significant impact on sleep quality, it affected sleep qualitythrough the trait anxiety, perceived stress and state anxiety indirectly, that was trait anxiety, perceived stress and state anxiety to form chain played the complete mediating role betweenadaptive perfectionism and sleep quality.
