Learning plan is the students’learning programme correspondent with teachers’teaching plan. It is a kind of teaching material which is carefully designed by teachers to guide students’ self-study on the condition that teachers fully study students’learning situation and integrate the content of textbook. Generally speaking, learning plan-guided teaching mode is one where students first learn, teachers then teach and finally teachers and students cooperate to complete teaching tasks.This research is aimed at exploring the effective application of learning plan-guided teaching mode in English teaching of students specializing in sports. Three research questions are addressed:1. What changes can happen to teachers in learning plan-guided teaching?2. What changes can happen to sports students in learning plan-guided teaching?3. What should teachers pay attention to in learning plan-guided teaching?The thesis is divided into five parts. Part I introduces the purpose and significance of the research. Part II deals with the literature review. In this part, the writer expounds the theoretical basis of implementing learning plan-guided teaching and introduces its current research situation. Part III is the most important part of this thesis, which includes subjects, instruments and procedures. Part IV is about findings and discussion. On the basis of analyzing the experiment data, two hypotheses are proved:1. Learning plan-guided teaching mode helps to increase sports students’academic achievement;2. Learning plan-guided teaching mode improves the learning motivation and interest of sports students. Furthermore, the writer discusses the three research questions mentioned above. Part V is the conclusion of the thesis. It summarizes the main findings and implications to English teaching in the process of implementing learning plan-guided teaching mode. At the same time, it reflects the limitations of this research.At present, more and more special classes are set up for students with aptitudes in sports and arts in senior high schools, and this thesis is supposed to provide some implications to those who teach English for students with such aptitudes.
