In traditional English teaching,the phenomenon that students play passive roles in receiving knowledge exists widely.Teaching method focuses on the delivery of knowledge from teachers to students,but it neglects to cultivate students' practical application of English.Therefore,it is considerable to introduce a new method to change students' learning way.This is experiential English teaching which advocates the student-centered teaching mode.Based on students' individual differences,this method explores a new way on how to make students master the content of study actively rather than learn it in an isolated way.This is a kind of effective way in current English teaching approach.Therefore,in order to foster students' communicative competence in their process of English learning,it is feasible for teachers to apply experiential English teaching to actual teaching practice.This study is aimed to verify the actual and useful result of experiential English teaching.This experiment intends to study the following problem.First,whether the Experiential Teaching can help improve students' enthusiasm for learning English.Second,whether it can improve students' English level.The two classes in Grade Eight in Xingtai NO.5 middle School were chosen as the experimental class and the control class.During the experiment,in the control class,the Grammar Translation teaching mode was used,while the experimental class adopted experiential teaching method.Before the experiment,the school last final-examination English paper and a questionnaire were used to pretest the two classes.The students' classroom performances in the two classes were recorded to find the differences in performance.At the end of a semester of teaching,the English language examination papers and a different questionnaire were used to test the two classes.It is found that under the experiential English teaching method,students improved their enthusiasm in English learning and have a better relationship with classmates and the teacher.They prefer to have class in such a group-discussion situation,and they enjoy the class that provided video and experimental atmosphere for them to explore.The students' English level was improved after carrying out the experiential English teaching.In group discussion,everyone is required to have the ability to speak out and communicate with members in English.Although some of them are not able to talk with others in English frequently at the first time,but as they progress through the course,they attempt to communicate with others as well.The group discussion plays a role guiding among students in practicing their speaking and listening.Additionally,after-class-tasks need them to develop their writing ability,therefore,this method also strengthens their comprehensive English level.
