| In the recent decades of years, autonomous learning has been discussed intensely in the field of foreign language teaching, and the focus of English learning has shifted from the teachers to the students. The main goal of the New English Curriculum Standard (2002) is "develop students’ learning strategies and cultivate their ability of autonomous learning". With the English teaching need and the theoretical study explored in depth, many domestic researchers draw great attention to vocabulary learning which is of vital importance to language learners. Although many new vocabulary teaching approaches are emerged one after another, English vocabulary learning efficiency is not improved for Chinese learners. Many art students of senior high school still believe that vocabulary learning is the most difficult problem in English learning.Although art students are specialty in art, the academic courses are important, too. English is an important curriculum for them to enter a better college. Vocabulary is the essential basis in English learning. In vocabulary learning process, class time is limited, so learning autonomy is very important in English vocabulary learning. It is required that the teachers find effective ways to improve art students in order to make them meet the demands of academic courses and improve their specialty in art at the same time. Thus they can enter art institution through College Entrance Examination.Based on the cognitive approach, humanistic psychology and constructivist approach, the author focused on the situation of autonomous vocabulary learning of art students. Through the questionnaire and experiment, the author analyzed the following questions:1.What is the current situation of autonomous vocabulary learning for art students in senior high school?2. How to promote art students’lexical competence through the cultivation of autonomous vocabulary learning?This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction which states the importance of this thesis. The second part introduces main theoretical bases about autonomous vocabulary learning. Based on the theoretical inspection of vocabulary autonomous learning, the third part introduces the procedure of carrying out the questionnaire and experiment for art students in No.2High School of Xiongyue. Using questionnaire, the author wanted to measure the current situation of autonomous vocabulary learning about art students. The fourth part is the results of questionnaire and experiment. The last part is the conclusion of the paper. According to the analysis of the test, the author draws the conclusions:the vocabulary strategies training can enhance art students’ autonomous vocabulary learning ability; autonomous vocabulary learning can effectively improve art students’ vocabulary achievement. |
