Citizens’ Liberation Pedagogy of Paulo Freire is an importantdimension of his Liberation Pedagogy. It’s also an important extension,development and supplement in the process of civic education with thetheoretical direction of humanized education. On the other hand,Citizens’ Liberation Pedagogy which is an independent theory system canimprove China Civic Education in both theory and practice. Citizens’Liberation Pedagogy can provide a strong theoretical support andpractical guide for China’s current civic education reform by four ways:deeply critical perspective, a unique mode of civic education, fullparticipation of civic education and civic education humane purposes.Therefore, this article will sort out, explore and summary Citizen’sliberation Education of Paulo Freire in order to provide somerecommendations for the development and reform of civic education.In general, this article will discuss three problems of Citizen’sliberation Education: what、why and how. The summary of these questionscan help us to clear the connotation and implication of Citizen’sliberation Education and to find out the enlightenment to the civiceducation of our country. Specifically, the article contains four parts.The first part is the introduction which describes the origin of study,current research, concept definition, purpose and significance, researchideas and methods. The second part which aims to offer the analysis ofthe study introduces the background and theory bases of Citizen’sliberation Education. The third part introduces the theory system fromthree aspects: what, why and how. These three aspects are complementaryto show the characteristics of Citizen’s liberation Education:Systematic, creative, practical and epochal character. The articleanswers the question”what is Citizen’s liberation Education” by contrasting with the traditional civic education from five aspects:educational purposes, educational content, teaching methods, teachingprocess and teacher-student relationship. The article answers thequestion “why we need Citizen’s liberation Education” by analyzing theimportance and necessity of the theory from three aspects: the inherentmeaning, the present situation of China(both in politic and education).Facing the question of “how to liberate”, the article introduces threestrategies during the implementation process: conscientization,criticaland dialogicity. The forth part makes a profound reflection of this theoryby finding out four deficiencies of Citizen’s liberation Education:vulnerability, aggressive, complexity and hysteresis quality aftersystem introduction. It is based on the current situation to supply twoadvices: equality of teacher-student interaction and active citizenparticipation.Paulo Freire, who is an educator and reformer of the third world, knowsclearly the pains and losses of reforms on the road to the developingcountries’nation recovery. Therefore,we need to learn and reference fromthe gains and losses of Citizen’s liberation Education.
