English has become an important tool of international communication. We acquire and exchange written information by reading. So according to the new English curriculum for Chinese junior middle schools, reading comprehension is very significant in English teaching. Although teachers spent a lot of time and effort on teaching reading, it’s hard to improve students’reading ability in rural middle school.The purpose of the paper is to explore three-dimensional task-based reading teaching method that can be used in reading class effectively in rural middle school. The theory of teaching method focuses on multilevel learning, in which teachers help students complete the tasks of reading activities to train their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. It can improve students’comprehensive language competence and reading interest.The author studies the theoretical foundation of learning and reading. The study presents the characteristics and problems of the reading teaching in rural middle school based on observations, questionnaires and interviews. The author designed the method of three-dimensional task-based reading teaching to solve the problems. The paper presents teaching plans and explains the purpose of the design. The author experimented in Class Four and Class Five, Grade Nine of Shuangfeng Middle School, Huangpi, Hubei from Sep.2012to Mar.2013. Analysis and experiment show that this method is more effective in improving the classroom efficiency, learners’reading competence and comprehensive language competence. Furthermore, it can also arouse learners’ reading interest. Meanwhile, there are some shortcomings and problems of three-dimensional task-based reading teaching, the author offers some means to dispose them. And the thesis needs enriching by teaching practicing.
